As a DJ
They call me the Mayor
A little more on that:
My affair with music began in my hometown, Dangriga, the culture capital of Belize. Music is everywhere at every moment in the Caribbean. Reggae, Salsa, and Calypso permeate the air. Their presence as intertwined with existence as the salt in the ocean breeze that carries rhythm across town. I've spent a great many hours watching my grandfather—a master drum-maker—hollowing out logs, stringing verticals, and stretching hides. Quite literally building the staple of Garifuna music.
Well known for being an outspoken critic on all things, my connections to sound and rhythm run deep. I firmly believe music should tether us to who and what we cherish rather than numb us into submission.
Be they listening bars, lounges, clubs or festivals, I work with people that put sound first. I specialize in the soulful, Jazz-forward sides of African Dance Music (ADM). That includes but is not limited to Amapiano, Afro House, Afro Tech, and 3-Step. My sets explore the romance, drama, and ritual of music from Africa and the diaspora beyond.
